"Our Children Are The Future Church"

Our Sunday School department has tripled, along with our general attendance, over the past two decades. We love inviting people to our church and our attendance has grown dramatically since we opened our new church facility. We are currently averaging over 400 on Sunday morning.

Our well trained teachers and assistants ensure that your child is being taught the inspired word of God. From the 18 month old nursery student singing "Happy, Happy" (his version of "I’m So Happy!") to the 40 member children’s choir singing, "No Way We Are Not Ashamed", you will see how much our children LOVE Sunday School.

In June 1997 we began a new and dynamic Sunday school program entitled "Power Hour" and it lives up to that name. The children enjoy it so much they unofficially renamed it "Funday School". Our children are our future church and it is our obligation to teach them God's word.  Each one is beautiful, and anything they do is precious in our sight, and HIS.

This was a day of testing for Sis. Sims' helper's multi-tasking abilities. Either we were making sure neither the boys nor the girls were in the Moon Walk for longer than 10 minutes (they kept perfectly good time of each other), wrapping up dozens of sticks of cotton candy, monitoring the coloring table and video, leading the way in a relay, deciding which kid slurped up the most Jello, or preparing food for the children. It was a blast! We had about 70 children in attendance. Some were content simply bouncing around a basketball, while others bounced from the Moon Walk to the cotton candy machine repeatedly. All in all, it was a great time and we are looking forward to the next time.

Youth Ministry

"Train up a child ..."

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:6

Statistics show that by the time a child reaches the age of thirteen they will decide on their spiritual future.  The questions that we ask are simple.  Will they serve the Lord by staying on the straight and narrow, or travel down the rocky path of destruction?

One way to help them make that decision is by keeping our young people involved in various activities.  Whether it be a gym night, fellowship hall/chapel service, H2H (house to house prayer), sports at the park, retreats, summer youth camps, or just hanging out, we try to keep them going in the right direction.  Our youth pastor, Bro. Vidal Rodriguez, who took on the position in April of 1989, and his wife are here to do just that.

Starting at the age of twelve and up, young (and older) people are invited to join and be a part of the ongoing activities.  We also have various classes to help mold and assist in the direction of our young people, including the Teens, High School, and College and Career Classes.  These classes offer life assessment and teachings on each individual level.  The Bible states in Romans 12:2:

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

We believe that by keeping our young people active they will discover what the perfect will of God is for their life.  Speaking of which, we have had many testimonies of the direction that God lead in our youth.  One being, a young lady from our youth group who married and has become a “missionary” to Tijuana, Mexico.  She and her husband are now the youth leaders in the church there and she leads a growing youth choir.

Our church includes a gymnasium  that  greatly enhances our outreach to the youth of Columbus.

Spanish Ministry

"The Whole Gospel To The Whole World"

he Church of Columbus has had an active Hispanic Ministry for more than 15 years.  We currently meet  in small groups for praise, worship, fellowship and to minister the word of God in Spanish.  We are having wonderful times together. As we anticipate the presence of the Lord, His love and mercy is manifested.  In recent years, we have attended and hosted Spanish rallies throughout Georgia and sang at Family Camp.

Spanish Service Music
Spanish Service

We have Spanish Service night the last Sunday every month.  We sing many traditional and contemporary Spanish songs.  We also translate some of the songs we sing in these special services from Spanish into English, so we can share more with our English speaking saints. For more information please contact The Church at (706)  571-0919.

Recreation Ministry

"We Understand The Times"
I Chronicles 12:32

In this latter day we realize that many people will never darken the doorway of a church unless someone reaches out to them with an invitation, or gives them a "reason" to come.  Our men meet every Monday at 7:30PM  in the gym for recreation.

Team Trophies

In past years we have sponsored a basketball and softball team, and through these two ministries have been able to reach many souls in our community. Though winning is not the only goal, it surely does not hurt! Our teams have placed in several tournaments! Organized games are held at area ball fields and courts and are refereed by members of the local Christian sports board. For more information on the above please contact our church office at (706) 571-0919.

Evangelism

"Reaching out"

Home bible studies, Father's House, spiritual growth courses and dinner ministry are a few of the outreach and growth ministries of our church. We want to win souls for God's kingdom and strengthen them in His word, so they can, in turn, win others to him. If you would like to have a home bible study please contact Rev. David Hill at (706) 571-0919 for more information. This is a free and exciting series you are sure to enjoy.

Music Ministry

Music and worship were blended magnificently at the dedication of Solomon's Temple. II Chronicles 5:12-14 tells us that is was the "duty of the instrumentalist and singers to make themselves heard in unison in praise and thanksgiving of the Lord." It also tells us that when the song was raised, the house of the Lord was filled with a cloud, so that the priests could not stand to minister; for the glory of the Lord filled the house.

Music and singing are powerful tools to help us be more sensitive to the presence of the Lord. There are many avenues available in our church which enable us to better enter into Spirit-led praise and worship. Our choirs, musical dramas, small groups, soloists and instrumentalists all add to our church family's worship experience.  We can accommodate more than 55 in the choir - we believe the Lord will continue to fill it!!

Bible Quizzing

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman...rightly dividing the word of truth"

2 Timothy 2:15

In 1998, the church in Columbus resurrected a quizzing program that was dormant for many years. Quizzing has become an integral part of the spiritual growth for teens in Columbus. Those who participate not only enjoy great travels within Georgia and the Southeast, but they build friendships with quizzers from other churches and strengthen relationships with their fellow team members. Along with the challenge of learning the meaning of team work, experiencing the joys of victory and the trials of defeat, they are hiding the Word of God in their hearts and glorifying God. This is a ministry that prepares the church of tomorrow - our youth - by building faith today!

The regular quiz season runs from January to July every year, and by faith continues through September with the National Bible Quizzing Tournament that takes place at the annual U.P.C.I. General Conference.

Ladies' Ministries

The first Monday night of the month at 7:00 PM, our ladies meet at the Church to pray specifically for our children.  This is a combined endeavor of the United Pentecostal Church International.  Churches all across the world combine to combat the forces of Satan that are attacking "our future church!"

Though our Convalescent Care Ministry and the assistance of other members in The Church, over the past several years 300+ lap-robes, "comforting stuffed animals" and other gifts have been provided for area nursing home patients. Through the hard work of so many charity concerts on the grounds of one of our local nursing homes has come to fruition.  Many have donated their time and money for these worthwhile projects.  God is blessing those who participate in these activities and functions and are realizing that giving of one's time to bless others is one of the most rewarding things that can ever be accomplished!!

Our ladies provide much needed support to keep the Lord's House running smoothly.  As we work together for special events to provide food, decoration, or "whatever our hands sees the need to do", we add the Mother's touch for our guests.  We set an annual goal to give a generous offering to the Mother's Memorial through the Georgia District U.P.C.I.

From sponsoring and hosting fellowship dinners, preparing and delivering bereavement trays, hosting bridal showers to showers for expectant Moms and many other activities in between, our ladies get the job done!!

Cassette tapes, CDs and DVDs are available at our Bookstore for a nominal cost of $3.00, $4.00 and $6.00 each, respectively.  Anyone desiring to place an order may also send an email to the following address: ssheppard5@hotmail.com
