Giraffes

From The Serengeti

For the first time since Eden the animals weren’t chasing one another for an evening meal.  It was incomprehensible, extraordinary. If they hadn’t seen it with their own eyes, no one would have believed it was happening. But it was. There was no denying the miraculous journey of all species of animals from around the world and into the ark. What invisible something had compelled the giraffe to leave the Serengeti Plain of Africa and journey over 2,000 miles to just the right place at just the right time?

It was a surreal scene. There was a quiet and calm peacefulness about the whole business. Lyons, tigers, sheep and cows all made their way serenely into the refuge of the ark. How is it possible that predators refused to prey on the weaker animals? What psychological or biological button was pushed that numbed their innate compulsion to chase, kill feed?

Some have speculated that God gave Noah the instructions to build an ark 120 years before it was needed, because Noah would require that much time to gather all the necessary animals. How foolish men appear when they attempt to explain the omniscience of God. Had Noah begun collecting animals as soon as he received his commission to construct, the only animal still living at the time of completion would have been a turtle. Of course, turtles do just fine in the water. Even elephants only live about seventy years.

Why now? Why would at least 7,000 species of animals decide that now is the time to take a trip to Noah’s ship building yard? Very simply, God told them to go!

God’s presence is known, felt practiced every moment by every element of creation, except man. The animals of Noah’s Ark were content to walk together without fear. The disciples of Jesus proclaimed: “…even the winds and the sea obey Him!” Legion’s demons at Gadara fled the man and entered the swine when He spoke. Just mention His name and the minions of Hell quake with fear. But, man must practice God’s presence in order to become sensitive to Him.

Have you been practicing God’s Presence? Have you become so sensitive to the nearness of God that His mere nudging is enough to move you to worship? Don’t allow the animal kingdom, the wind and sea the very demons of Hell to find it easier to sense God than “You” His own Child. Practice His Presence!

Are You Practicing His Presence?
